A really friendly, flexible outdoor activity company for small or large groups. Specialist in canoes and kayaks, but capable of all other outdoor activities.
Such a shame that there is a bad review of this company by a disgruntled stag group on here. Whilst Rob the owner is very relaxed about this I feel compelled to write a review as this company has been going for over 15 years. Ive been coming with Rob and Ultimate for the last 6 years with my family and always had such a lovely time. Ultimate are very accommodating in terms of timings, advising best routes and ensuring safety, we have always paddled with our kids and have been given exemplary briefs, options to cancel if its rained and tuition on the river until we felt comfortable. We phone up every year and always are given fantastic and punctual treatment. I genuinely would highly recommend these guys.
An absolute joke this company. Do not use them. Tried to cancel our trip the night before, turned up late, no health and safety, no maps, nobody to pick you up or tell you where to get out of the river. We had to drag canoes back upstream and my father in his 70's nearly drowned in the rapids slipping on the rocks. To think they suggested us canoeing upstream as an alternative...that would have been an impossible task due to the low water level. The town we got told to visit had no jetty or landing area to get safely out of the river. We had to climb up a muddy bank and drag the canoes up it. Should have smelt a rat when they wouldn't accept credit card payment. Proper cowboy outfit. If you want to go canoeing in this area the bar staff at a local pub said use Monmouth canoeing. Avoid these like the plague!
DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY. I have had the worst experience ever with this company.It was very easy to book my activity, but one they had received my deposit I soon found that they did not reply to numerous emails. It was always myself that was doing all the chasing. I had to make some alterations to the amount of people doing the activity, and gave the company plenty of notice, however the day before I had a text asking to pay the outstanding balance, I disagreed with amount being charged and was told that if I did not pay then the activity would be cancelled, and I had already travelled down the night before with a large party in readiness for the event the following day. I had to agree to pay 300 more than it should have been just to take part as it was a friends stag do.I found Rob the owner very hostile and rude.We were due to be picked up by the company to take us to the event, of which they were half an hour late, and when we arrived we were being hurried as they had apparently another pick up to do.We were kayaking, and were given no health and safety briefings, just given our kayaks and let go. We were given no directions where we were to kayak to apart from a village name, and there was nobody there to greet us. There was an island half way down the route, and this is supposed to be well known. You are supposed to keep right but were not told this. Two of the group went left into the rapids and there was a fallen tree across our route and no way through, 2 of the kayaks ran into the tree and got sucked under. One got his leg trapped and was still being sucked under the tree by the current. He was close to getting his leg broken.There was nobody to greet us at the end and no clear place to get out of the river so had to get 8 Kayaks up a very steep bank. We got no apologies when we confronted the owner, and were told that as we had signed a disclaimer he was covered, but as a matter of fact we had not even seen or been sent a disclaimer.This company is a cowboy outfit, stay well away!!!!
A payment was made to this agent in December 2016. The end user has yet to receive their payment. Consequently my brother and I were turned away from our activity day in June.I strongly suggest you do NOT use this agent.
